Our new Head of Men’s Rugby

I’m really excited about starting my new role as Head of Men’s rugby. I am, however, in the unenviable position of following on from club legend Matt Hughes, who is stepping down from the role after two years of hard work. In his time as Head of Mens’ Rugby he has been instrumental in helping to get the club back on a more even keel after a few tough years. A big thank you Matt. I look forward to further building on this, helping with club development and continuing to move us into an exciting period on and off the pitch.
Our squads are a year older and we still have the majority of the more experienced players who returned to the squad last season, returning for another year. This is an exciting and talented squad who are again guided by our talented coaching team lead by Head Coach James Hadwin. The coaching team is looking to build on the progress made last season and get the team playing some exciting heads up rugby. We welcome back defence coach Andrew Selby who has returned to the area, and having experienced his coaching in the past, the club are fortunate to have him return. We have also retained all of last season’s coaches who give us a wealth of knowledge and we all share a great passion for our great club.
The upcoming season will be one of a few firsts, the First team have a new leadership duo of Stu and Alfie; we have been moved from the North West Region to a North Region which means we will be facing a number of teams from the North East that we have never played before, having spent three years living in the North East I look forward to their great hospitality and some bus trips visiting new hostelries, as well as renewing acquaintances with more local sides whom we haven’t met in league fixtures for quite a while (most of the coaching team were still playing!). This new league is going to present our young squad with a new set of challenges which I expect they will pass with flying colours and look forward to a more relaxing season than the ones we have just had (thank goodness for Jersey Reds).
The Second team welcome Connor Dobson as a co captain, working alongside Jack Woodhouse and the management team of Baino, Gary and Rob. With a year of stability under their belt and the introduction of some colts I see a season of positivity and excitement and with a fair wind look forward to a promotion challenge in the HALBRO North West league.
So with all this positivity I look forward to seeing as many people down at the club to enjoy the hospitality of Pete, Janey and the team.
