A home defeat
The visitors played the wet conditions better than Kirkby, especially in the first half when they scored three tries to race into a 22 nil lead. The home team finished the first half strongly, with a try by Charlie Oates to make the half time score 5 - 22. It rained throughout the game, but the home team came into the game more, playing down the slope towards the town. Oates jinked in under the posts, converted by Charlesworth to make it 12 - 22. However the visitors were awarded a penalty for a high tackle to increase their lead, but then Kirkby had a lot of possession and territory and were starting to go through the phases. Bradshaw broke through the centres to take the score to 17 -25, with a conversion to get a losing bonus point, the kick narrowly went wide. The visitors kicked well for positions and did the basics better than Kirkby, but otherwise a closely fought contest.
