Week 12 – a few surprises!

An interesting set of results after week 12, ie the start of the second half of the season. Keswick had a good away win at close rivals Aspatria 6 - 16, and Guisborough had a home win 34 - 15 against Consett. Middlesborough had a close home encounter against Durham City but edged it 38 - 35. Northern continued their fine season with a home win 26 - 16 against West Hartlepool, and Upper Eden went down at home to Morpeth 27 - 39. We had a home win against Carlisle, scoring three tries, so the 4 try bonus point still eludes us. But the encouraging performance against Durham last week continued to this week, and everyone put in a big shift in defence to keep a clean sheet, and again lots of spirit and endeavour to move the ball around. Right winger Tom Barnes scored two tries, and left winger Charlie Oates went full length after an interception. A visit to Keswick next week will be interesting, as they will be seeking revenge after their defeat earlier in the season at Kirkby Lonsdale.
A minutes silence was held before the game, a tribute to Ben Taylor who lost his life in the fire last weekend, and also for long standing club member, official and supporter Mike Martindale, who passed away this week.
