U15 win at St Benedicts

Kirkby Lonsdale U15s travelled to St Benedicts for their Cumbria Cup fixture. For once the weather held and supported a fantastic game of rugby by two evenly matched sides.
The game started with Kirkby Lonsdale absorbing an onslaught of pressure and after several breakdown skirmishes, St Benedicts converted a penalty. St Benedicts peppered the Kirkby Lonsdale back line with high spiral bombs, putting the pressure on in the opening 15 minutes.
Kirkby Lonsdale rallied and scored a try from Black, followed quickly by a converted try from Barker, with Turner slotting the conversion.
12-3 at half time to Kirkby Lonsdale. Both sets of supporters in good voice with the referee coping well with the crowds enthusiastic shouting.
The second half started at full throttle, end to end, for both sides.
St Benedicts fought hard to respond to Kirkby’s fast rucking and offloading game, pressure applied, St Benedict’s scored another penalty, followed by a rapid converted try. 15-12 to St Benedicts, Kirkby under pressure.
The boys then remembered ‘we stay in the fight’ and with 8 minutes to go, Southey went hypersonic from his own 22 through several flailing St Benedicts players to score a class try. 17-12 to Kirkby Lonsdale.
The game entered the last few minutes with Kirkby Lonsdale applying the pressure through several penalties and when in range Captain Muldowney called up Turners Boot to slot through for 3 points.
On the restart Kirkby gathered and Hope kicked to touch to end a nerve racking and exhilarating game.
Final score 20-15 to Kirkby Lonsdale.
All 22 players did themselves, the club, the parents and coaches/managers immensely proud. Also a big shout out to players outside the selected 22 who came all the way to St Benedicts to support their mates.
