Coaching for Schools

Kirkby Lonsdale RUFC Community team can now offer schools bespoke coaching provision. This may start with a Tag rugby coaching program for primary schools and then follow with more developmental coaching for older age groups and abilities. Sessions are usually delivered in six week blocks but we can design and tailor packages to suit your requirements.

Primary School Tag Coaching

Tag Rugby sessions which are minimal contact offer a great fun introduction to the game and consist of the basic tactical and technical elements required to develop an understanding of the full game of rugby.

Tag to tackle is the next stage designed to bridge the gap between tag rugby and contact rugby. It’s aim is to safely introduce elements of physical contact as well as contact with the ground while still developing core skills of running, passing, supporting and evading. It satisfies the holistic needs of many children and can enhance learning and motivation whilst it is in line with recommendations in the National Curriculum for Physical Education and “Physical Literacy Framework”.

It is also designed to support the delivery of PE and extra curricular sport at Upper Key Stage 2- years 5&6

Core Values

Rugby’s core values – Teamwork, Respect, Enjoyment, Discipline and Sportsmanship, help develop children as confident, capable young people.

Using Rugby Union as a vehicle for developing and enhancing personal and social skills, we believe the culture of rugby, increases confidence so pupils are more likely to be better performers both on and off the pitch.

Teaching skills that can be transferred into other areas of their life as they become better at working with their peers and respecting rules and each other.

Specialist Schools with children requiring Learning Needs

Scott, our Development Officer has experience and specialisation in coaching/teaching children with special learning and behavioural needs. We can discuss your specific requirements and then deliver a program to suit your needs.

Secondary School Development

Many secondary schools offer rugby as part of their curriculum delivery. KLRUFC is keen to work with and support school coaches and PE specialists to provide and deliver safe, high quality rugby union by providing extra rugby sessions to assist in the development of young players. This may include skill specific or team based coaching sessions that offer professional and innovative coaching for your school. Specialist areas of coaching: front row, scrum, ruck and maul, backs, continuity, attack, defence, kicking, decision making, breakdown, game management and contact skills.
