Blaydon 52-0 Kirkby Lonsdale

Blaydon away

A Personal View by Cammie Hodgkinson
Disregard the scoreline this was a very spirited performance by an under strength Kirkby side with more than a smattering of players from the Development Squad and a second row forward at scrum half. Number eight Alex Rogers Captain on the day and all took their chance well on Blaydon’s artificial surface.
A measure of their quality and resilience can be seen in that a fired up Blaydon led only 19 – 0 at half time. But the screw turned in the second half with the home side running in three tries in the first ten minutes and two more late on to take their score past fifty and maintain their play off place one point ahead of Harrogate. A slight downside for Kirkby was that young winger Harry Huddleston was carried off with suspected sprained ligaments, hopefully he’ll be fit for the last game.
Results elsewhere prompt congratulations to Lymm and Wilmslow and thoughts now turn to that last match of the season at Underley Park in what should be a cracking celebration of a successful season with a finale against Wilmslow, who might get a few free beers.
